TATTOO: No Pain, No Gain

“No pain no gain!” this is the common line that most tattoo artist would say whenever they would tattoo someone for the expression of art. However, what is really the essence of tattoo, and when did it started?

Tattooing existed over thousands of years of ago. It was believed that the first group of people who started tattooing was the Polynesians. For the Polynesians, tattooing was a form of art expression and diversion. The tattoos of the Polynesians were the most proficient in the art of tattooing. Polynesians believed that the force in their life, as well as their lives lie on the tattoos they possessed within their bodies.

Tattooing is the injection of the needle with a colored skin ink on the superficial surface of the skin, forming unique designs as an expression of art, culture and masculinity.

The male Homo sapiens believed that they are more masculine with tattoos on their body, because they survived every pain felt whenever the needle penetrates to the surface of their skin.

As time pass, the art of tattooing has been wide spreading all over the world. The female Homo sapiens also learned to appreciate the art of tattooing. And up to this contemporary period, there are numbered of female Homo sapiens that indulge themselves in the art of tattooing.

Tattoo recipients can never gain good results of tattoo not, unless they would survive the pain that is inflicted whenever the needle touches the surfaces of their skin, that is why tattoo artists would always say that tattooing is a no pain, no gain process.

In every culture and nation, tattoo has a variety of meanings. Some have a tattoo as a symbol of an organization membership while others have the tattoo as permanent markings for a wedding bond as a symbol of an everlasting commitment.

Tattoo is a symbol of what a person is, what a person is into, what a person believes, and it is a symbol of a person’s life experiences.

One amazing purpose of tattoo was developed through the human's creative mind, throughout time, cosmetic tattoo was developed to enhance a person’s appearance and boost one’s self confidence. Tattoo is used as an alternative for an eyebrow, eyeliner, and lip liners to improve a person’s appearance. And it also saves time, energy and money. A person will look presentable without the effort of applying make up, and tattoo is an advantage over makeup because it won’t smudge and can’t be rubbed away. Cosmetic tattoo improves facial lines, and it covers scars on the skin.

Cosmetic tattoo is a big advantage for women who are always busy and don’t have time anymore to put on some makeup.

On the other hand, there are few clinical concerns that are raised on the art of tattooing. In the clinical field, it is very important that sterility should be practiced especially when a foreign object is inserted, injected, and penetrated on the surface of the skin; sterile tattoo needles must be use among tattoo artists and should be disposed properly on a separate container to prevent needle pricking and contamination because might lead to other medical problems.

Basic medical hand washing and applying aseptic liquids on hands should be done properly. Sterile gloving should also be done before performing each tattooing procedure so as blood of tattoo recipients would be avoided touching on the skin of the tattoo artist.

Once the needle is inserted and penetrated on the skin it is already considered a wound, and that wound can be a causative factor that would invite microorganism that might lead to possible skin infection.

Another concern for tattooing is that, before one should get a tattoo, one should make sure that he or she is really interested and doesn’t have plans of changing their mind because once it is there it will forever be in there.

Each should get a professionally trained tattoo artist if one wants a tattoo on his or her body because tattooing is not an easy job and certain risk are at stake as the procedure is performed most especially with the cosmetic tattoo.
